Lucy Tasker is a clarinetist of Belgian and Welsh heritage who is based between Brussels and London. She was born in Tokyo, Japan, where she lived until she was 15, studying music through the Yamaha music method in Tokyo.
First and foremost, Lucy is an improviser, a versatile player who enjoys playing in a variety of contexts. Lucy has the most experience playing improvised music, swing styles (Manouche/New Orleans), and Balkan music. She has also played and collaborated with a variety of musical cultures from around the world such as Pakistani, North Indian, Nepali, Kurdish, French, and Italian music.
Lucy is a fluent speaker of English, French, Japanese, and has a rudimentary understanding of Korean, Dutch, and Spanish. Passionate about languages and music, she recently wrote an MA dissertation on the translations of Jacques Brel’s music in Japanese.
Lucy is available to teach clarinet, general musicianship, ear training, and Japanese/French lessons!
